This can be accomplished by changing a few details and using a few unique colors, and these simple changes can result in a completely one-of-a-kind Care Bear.
This guide will show you how to create your Care Bear drawing. We’ll walk you through all the steps and also look at some ways you can color your drawing.
Once that’s done, we’ll also look at ways you can add or change the design.
All this and more await you in the 6 steps we have prepared for you. So get ready to feel the love as we begin this guide and create your own Care Bear.
How to Draw A Care Bear
Step 1
Care Bears are round little characters, so that we will use many curved, rounded lines for this design. There are also a lot of small details in the linework to show details like fur.
You can use a trick whenever you’re drawing something that requires realistic proportions: take a pencil and trace the rough shapes of the drawing.
For this design, you could use some rough circular shapes for this bear’s head and body and then some thinner shapes for the bear’s limbs.
Shapes can be rough, but try to match them to the proportions we’re working on. With that in mind, we can start outlining the head of this Care Bear.
The head is fairly round but not perfectly circular. Due to the rounded cheeks, the face is slightly wider at the base and narrows slightly towards the top.
The ears are very small and rounded, marked with an irregular line that makes them appear hairy. Also, on the sides of the face, we will use some small pointed lines that will give the bear a furry look.
We choose a specific shape to achieve the classic Care Bear look. So try to stick to the reference image exactly.
Once you’re happy with the outline of the head, we can move on to step two of the guide!
Step 2
We’ll return to the face later in the tutorial, but first, let’s start drawing the body for this Care Bear drawing. Specifically, we’re going to draw the bear’s arms.
Luckily, the pose we’re drawing should be easy to portray since her arms are behind her back. Although we chose this design, you can choose other poses if needed.
Arms could be stretched out to make this Care Bear look even more excited, or it could nod.
It’s up to you, but for now, let’s stick with the design in the reference image.
Even if the hands are behind the back for the most part, you can still prepare to draw by using a pencil to draw rough shapes.
This way, you can draw what they might look like behind their backs.
This may make it easier to view when drawing. Then we can draw the actual outlines of the arm. These are drawn with rounded lines forming the outside edges of the arms.
In the middle, there will be a big space where we will draw the belly of this lucky bear. We now outline the left abdomen with a slightly curved vertical line.
That’s all we have to do for this step! Once you’re happy with how it looks, we can proceed to the third step of the guide.
Step 3
Now that we’ve drawn the upper body, we can finish the bottom part of the outline in this step of our Care Bear drawing guide.
The Care Bear’s paws are fairly broad and have large feet. We use the same curved lines to give this Care Bear a more rounded shape.
As you can see in our reference image, the left leg is slightly straight, while the right leg is straight. This helps complete Care Bear’s pose.
The paws start right where the design ended in the last step, making the bear look small and cuddly.
Use slightly curved lines for the legs and then curve them more drastically for the toes.
As mentioned, this should result in wide legs with large feet, but still in proportion to the rest of the body.
If that’s easier, you can also plan those legs with a pencil first.
Once your drawing is complete, you can erase each of these pencil lines, as we no longer need them.
In the next steps, we will focus on some internal details.
Step 4
The outline of this drawing of a Care Bear is now complete, so we can now focus on some internal details.
Although it may not look like initially, we will add some details in this step.
We’ll start with the small shapes inside the ear’s outline. These have curved bases and rounded top lines.
The shapes you drew in the ears represent the openings in the ears. Next, we’ll draw a circular shape for the outline of the mouth.
This will be a fairly standard circle, but not drawn with a solid, even line. Some small spiky lines will stick out, making this section hairier.
We won’t draw the mouth for now, as that will be done in the next step. Next, you can draw out two horizontal curved lines from the mouth’s contour, which will go under the eyes.
Speaking of eyes, you can also add them in this step. Each eye is a thin oval shape with a smaller black oval inside for the pupils. Then finish off with a few brows above the eyes.
Finally, for this step, we outline the abdomen. This is a larger version of the circular outline you drew on the face, but large enough to fill most of this area. Once these are drawn, we can move on to some final details in the next step of the guide.
Step 5
We’ve now completed the floor plan of this Care Bear, so it’s time to finish some final touches.
Once those details are in place, let’s look at some ways to bring your ideas into the drawing.
First, let’s focus on the details in our reference image, starting with the face. Let’s start by drawing a small heart shape for the Care Bear’s nose inside that furry circle on the face.
Next, we’ll use some curved lines for the mouth. To finish off, you can add a few more dots on the cheeks to show where the mustache would be.
Once we finish the facial details, we can add some details to the belly.
This is an important part of any Care Bear design as the images on their tummies are an iconic design aspect.
We have two lollipops with hearts crossed over each other for this Care Bear. It should be easy enough to draw these details onto your stomach.
If you have a favorite Care Bear that has a different symbol on its stomach, you can draw it. It’s up to you; you can draw as much detail as you like.
If you want to add some props or even more characters, you can do that.
Drawing a background could also be a great way to make it even more unique.
It’s up to you to add any extra details you want! Then we can finish with some painting fun in the next step.
Step 6
The final step in this guide is to add some color to this Care Bear! Our example shows you one of many color schemes you can use to create your.
A Care Bear can be about any color imaginable, so you have many options.
You can opt for a color representing an existing Care Bear or create your variation of Care Bear.
It’s up to you, but no matter what color scheme you use, you can incorporate different hues to add nuance to the design.
We used mostly light blue for the Care Bear but a darker blue around the edges.
You can do this regardless of the color you choose for your Care Bear. Not only can you color it in any colors of your choice, but you can also use some fun and interesting art mediums.
For example, if you want the Care Bear to be bright and colorful, you can use colored pencils, markers, or paints to highlight the colors.
Using glitter, stickers, or special craft glue are some creations that can add more magic to the design.
Mixing different mediums and crafts can also make colors shine in unique ways.
There are many ways to add color to this design, and we can’t wait to see your decision! Make sure to let your creativity run wild and see what happens.
