History
JAMA was first developed by Steve Kearney.
This version was produced in collaboration with Dr. Neil Johnson (apparently a former colleague of Kearney’s at Rutgers University). This version was written to address several serious problems with MatrixLibrary v1.
This version was developed for R, using a style borrowed from R’s Matrix package.
In 2002, JAMA was rewritten using the Java language and extensively rewritten to integrate with the Java Graphics Environment and Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition. Most importantly, this version allowed the user to specify the storage of the matrix (defaulting to column-major).
In 2004, JAMA was combined with the JAMA Graphics Environment and the first public version was released. It continues to improve and is currently in beta testing.
