The final unusual thing I noticed is the way Adobe handled the switch from the crop tool to the loupe (which is better than the crop tool in my opinion). I have a couple of options for cropping. The Shutterbug App has an excellent implementation that is very efficient and fast. I know just as well that the Crop tool in Photoshop also works exceptionally well. I’ve tried to use both of them extensively. However, I’ve noticed that the loupe mode can cause certain crops to be more predictable than others. Not that crops are particularly inaccurate – more like crops sometimes just don’t work. Unfortunately, it’s almost always the case that it just doesn’t work. If you crop an image with the loupe in Photoshop, bang – no dice. That’s probably due to Lightroom’s different placement of the loupe, which I find to be more appropriate for the job. The way Adobe has implemented their brand new crop tool makes it somewhat difficult to crop pictures. I’m not sure if that’s a thing in other RAW converters, but you get the point.
The only other thing that can’t be underestimated is Fujifilm’s RAW image converter. It’s not the most robust converter out there, it’s not free, but many of the problems that I had with its older competitors can now be easily forgotten. I think that Adobe should do something similar. And I don’t mean making the bundled RAW converter available for free, but making a Fujifilm plugin that’s more robust. Remember Krita?
After all, the bleeding edge of technological progress is most definitely not that of Lightroom. Admittedly, Lightroom has its fair share of bugs, performance issues, and the occasional crashing moment, but at least it’s simple, safe to use, and effective. The problem is that it’s not perfect.
