When he wakes up, he discovers that Elika is nowhere to be found. After a long and arduous journey, the Prince reaches a large pool of sea water, which he leaps into. Some time later, the Prince arrives at the edge of a great desert. He proceeds to cut four trees, before returning to a small desert pool whose inhabitants included a large frog unsuitable for human consumption.
The Prince explains his situation with the frogs; they do not take healthy food, and eat their smaller brethren in order to satisfy themselves. The Prince begins discussing his dilemma with them, and they inform him that the four trees he has cut are sacred to the land’s four sacred trees. The Prince can also wash himself using the water from the frogs’ cooking pot in order to restore his health. By cutting the four trees, you will gain access to the four sacred trees and eventually the Tree of Life. This method is necessary because you have no sword and no way to destroy the corrupted trees to gain access to the four sacred trees. However doing this ultimately leads to the Prince having to either give up, or kill one of the four sacred trees.
Eventually, the Prince decides to abandon the frogs to the consequences of the future. After a long journey, he reaches the entrance of a temple growing out of the sand. The Prince is immediately set upon by guards, and the gate closes behind him. Within the temple, the Prince finds the Mourning King and Elika.
