How to determine when objects are added to an Observable Collection that it will later be added to a DataGridView?

I have an Observable Collection that I want to add to a DataGridView when the user clicks a button. My problem is, the contents of the collection will vary, and could contain objects that a DataGridView does not recognize. I want my code to handle that case gracefully. How can I do that?
Example:
Suppose I have an observable collection of objects of type Stuff and a collection of StuffViews of the same type. The StuffViews are created from data that the user enters into an input field, so they may be of any type. I want my code to handle the case where the user enters some data into the input field, clicks a button to add it to the StuffViews collection, and then clicks the button to add it to the observable collection. But I don’t want to add objects to the collection if they aren’t of type StuffView.

I do not think you can do that with any observable collection and binding it to a DataGridView, since the binding itself does not care about what it is to be bound to.
To achieve what you want, you will have to make a custom List, and extend it so it has methods for adding new StuffViews, and exposing the bound DataGridView.
You can look at this as an exercise on Extending Classes in C#.
