this can be a bit of an issue with systems that have been upgraded from windows 7 or windows 8. when you upgrade a windows system from windows 8, windows 8.1 or windows 10 home to windows 10 pro, the windows activation is converted over. but when you upgrade from windows 7 or windows 8.1 to windows 10 pro, the activation is not converted over. so your work-around for this is to make a.iso of your windows 10 pro and go back to the (windows 10 home, windows 8, windows 8.1) version and upgrade using that.iso.
so i have an interesting question because i installed windows 10 home edition as soon as the free upgrade became available. windows 10 home edition upgrade installed fine and has been working great ever since the upgrade. my computer was a windows 8 computer and i bought it back in the summer of 2010. anyways, i was using my computer literally just 3 days ago and i downloaded a file because this web [age thing kept popping up and i actually did not intend to download the file but it was an accident. i have a great anti-virus software and i ran it shortly after this file downloaded.

windows 7 and windows 8.1 users can still use an authentic windows activation key, while windows 10 users can no longer use an authentic activation key. instead, users must download the windows 10 activation software and enter the product key from a previously purchased copy of windows. if a valid product key is not entered, the computer will not activate.
