while its hardly a compliment that some of these features are included on previous sets (and some of them got evil dead re-released with bonus features only a few years ago), if youre a recent home video buyer of the evil dead groovy collection, expect a small amount of disappoint to hit you in the gonads when you pick up this blu-ray set. thankfully, though, most of what you would find on evil dead are among the best special features you can buy. in addition to the featurettes, a handful of additional interviews and outtakes are added, and in general, theyre all fascinating and full of excellent material. in addition to rekindling the long-dormant interest in the films, they shine a spotlight on the filmmakers themselves, as well as the cast. while thats not to say that its all new content, its a lot of great stuff for any horror fan, and this supplemental material is truly fantastic.
i love evil dead and evil dead ii to no end, and as a latecomer to the franchise, im always looking for additional creative outlets when i can, so the evil dead groovy collection is a welcome addition to my home media library. not only do you have all the additional content youve come to expect in a collection like this, but you get a new blu-ray release too, so you can enjoy an updated version of the films without having to go through the hassle of waiting for another dvd release. while the disc doesnt exactly look as great as the new evil dead blu-ray (and evil dead ii), its a damn fine movie transfer that isnt anything to sweat over. if the house is noisy and you just want to relax and watch a movie in peace, its a great collection to pick up when you want a nicely ported throwback disc without having to go through all the hassle of actually owning the previous releases.
