The day after the Jivitputrika Vrat, Shringipushmi is celebrated on the 13th day of Shravan month. On this day, men once again observe fast and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. During this fast, parents and children perform Jivitputrika Vrat Puja and take bath in holy waters. Jivitputrika Puja is performed on the day before Dasara or Datta Phalguni Purnima. On this day, children perform Jivitputrika Puja, which makes them more excited to celebrate other festivals later.
Gandharva prince Jimutvahana was born on the evening of the thirtieth of the bright half of the month of Magha. Jimutvahana was born in the forest of Dvaraka as an Apsara. The Pandavas came to know this when they were in Vidarbha forest. They were at the place where an elephant protects the tree and he protected them from Kaurava’s troops.
Another story related to Jitiya Vrat:While Ashwatthama was the sworn brother of the Pandavas, he was born on the thirtieth of the bright half of the month of Magha. When he was little, he used to eat the Pandava’s children. He thought that he has earned his fame and his power by killing the Pandavas. He was so happy and started to celebrate Jitiya Vrat. After his father’s death in the Mahabharatam war, he brought an army and had to fight with Pandavas for his revenge. He was so occupied with thoughts of killing the Pandavas that he did not notice Gandharva prince Jimutvahana inside a lake of the Kaurava army and he was killed by his own brother.
In Vrishabha month, Vritra king Vrihadasa imprisoned the sun god in a cave and all the gods were sad because of this. Kunti was very upset about this and appealed to Vishwakarma- the god of craftsmen- to make a golden bull which can present itself to the sun god. Vishwakarma went to the cave and made that golden bull and gave it to Kunti. One day, Vritra king Vrihadasa came to Kunti with a proposal. “If you send a messenger to me and send these cow and calf on the same date and I send one monkey and one mole to you, my rule will be over your kingdom.” Kunti was very happy to know that Vritra will send one mole and one monkey to her. She immediately sent them to Vrihadasa. After a few days, Vritra king sent a messenger to Kunti, but he was in no condition to come out of the cave as he was very sad at the time. He requested Kunti to send only one mole and one monkey, so that he could give up his soul at least for Vrihadasa. Vrihadasa sent the two people to Kunti and said, “Kunti send them to me.
