History
As with other Autodesk products, AutoCAD is largely the result of a large number of design engineers and graphics programmers working together to solve a specific problem. The computer-aided design (CAD) industry had grown in the 1970s and 1980s and software designers were sought after to design powerful and efficient software to automate the tasks of drafting. Although the available graphics systems for small microcomputers were primitive, a number of software designers from different disciplines of engineering and design successfully collaborated on the development of a computer program to design mechanical parts.
From 1975 to 1982, while studying mechanical engineering at University College, London, Stephen Clark designed the computer programs Bitmap Design, 2D Designer, and three-dimensional Drafting, which are basic to the AutoCAD software. In 1976, Clark wrote a landmark paper on the efficiency of bitmapped graphics for small computers. The paper was published in the journal ‘BIT’ and was the first published paper about the technology of bitmapped graphics. The paper was later released as the first book on computer graphics, Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice (co-authored with Bill Reiner).
Originally the internal CAD software package was called Draw! and was a single-window app for the Commodore PET personal computer, which was released in 1980. Draw! consisted of two parts: the first part was a vector-graphics editor and the second part was a rudimentary raster-graphics editor for editing bitmapped images. AutoCAD soon replaced Draw! as the first release of AutoCAD was made available in 1982. At the time, many other programs were available for the Commodore PET but none of them had the robust features of AutoCAD.
Throughout the 1980s, Autodesk changed the name of the AutoCAD CAD package to provide better market awareness. The 1980s also saw the release of AutoCAD R12, AutoCAD 3D R13 and AutoCAD LT. AutoCAD LT was developed from the ground up with a focus on creating a more inexpensive and less-powerful CAD package that could be used in small businesses.

The design of AutoCAD began in the early 1980s. The developers, including Stephen Clark and Martin Kay, had come from different disciplines, including mechanical engineering, chemistry, mathematics, and biochemistry, to solve a specific problem. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether LY391514, a novel compound developed by Lilly, has a therapeutic effect on the murine colitis model and to examine the effect of LY391514 on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha production and TNF-alpha-dependent apoptosis. The animal experimental colitis model was induced by administering dextran sulfate sodium salt to DBA/1J mice. LY391514 was administered by oral gavage at a dose of 100 mg/kg once daily after the start of administration of dextran sulfate sodium salt. The severity of colitis was evaluated by monitoring weight loss and fecal consistency. In the case of the LY391514-administered group, TNF-alpha-dependent apoptosis was evaluated by a TUNEL assay using colonic biopsy specimens. In addition, the serum levels of LY391514 were monitored. In the dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis model, LY391514 suppressed the weight loss (P = 0.027) and reduced the grade of fecal consistency (P = 0.019). A TUNEL assay showed that LY391514 suppressed TNF-alpha-dependent apoptosis in the mucosa (P = 0.013). Moreover, the blood levels of LY391514 were almost constant throughout the test period. LY391514 was effective in the prevention and treatment of murine colitis. The concentration of LY391514 in the blood at the time of maximum anti-inflammatory effects did not exceed the therapeutic effective concentration, and the concentration of LY391514 did not change significantly
