Photoshop Basics
In this book, you’ll find a number of handy tips to get you started with the basics. Although these are not the main focus of this book, the following are some basic information that I suggest you read as you get started:
* The basic Photoshop view: The default view in Photoshop is the default view. If you know that the View option on the View menu selects the standard document image view, then just do that (as shown in Figure 1-1).
* Your window options: You can control many different window options in Photoshop, which affects both how images you manipulate appear and how it affects your workspace. The View options are shown in Figure 1-2, and the Adjust options are shown in Figure 1-3. Some Adjust options are not available if you’re working with a flattened image or a Smart Object.
* Saving your image: By default, Photoshop saves images with the same filename you used when you opened the image file. However, you can change this behavior (and save all current changes) with the File Save dialog, as shown in Figure 1-4.
* Previewing your changes in the monitor: If you like watching as changes are made to your image, then use the Live View feature, which works best with images that are laid down or have been flattened. When the image is closed or changed to not show it, it will appear in the monitor in a dark gray or black background so that you can see what your changes look like. To see what the image looks like before it is changed, just leave the Live View on. Live View is explained in the Live View section of this chapter.

The following sections help you get started with Photoshop.
Photoshop includes the following tools (as shown in Figure 1-5):
* The Quick Selection tool enables you to click to select an area of an image that you want to modify. This tool is helpful when you want to select a portion of an image for just about any reason.
* The Hand tool enables you to draw lines and then modify them to make them paths that you can use in other tools. It works like a pencil, so you can draw lines,

It is possible to edit and create images in Photoshop Elements; however, the process is different from Photoshop because there are fewer features and some of the editing tools are broken out into several different panels.
The file size of an image edited in Photoshop Elements is a lot smaller than a file created in Photoshop CC. However, this process can take a while.
You can import images from your computer, and you can save it to your computer or to another location.
If you try to import a very big file, Photoshop Elements may not be able to open the image. Adobe recommends that the largest image size you should import is 1.44 MB per file.
The original file is separated into a series of layers, making it easy to re-order, edit or move things around.
You can crop the image; however, you cannot undo the crop once you have finished editing.
If you use the Photoshop Elements version you will save the cropped image or the cropped image without a background when you finish editing it. If you save the image with the background, you will lose the cropped image.
However, Photoshop Elements does not support automatic trimming of the border.
A retouch feature in Photoshop Elements is available for both image. You can use any of the programs within the Retouch menu.
There is also a Specialty section that contains tools such as a warp tool, drawing tools and tools used for adding borders, as well as a lens correction option that can remove blur.
There are more special features in Photoshop Elements than in other graphics programs. The ability to crop images, rotate, resize and select pixels are just a few of the features you get in Photoshop Elements.

There are five basic features that are available in Photoshop Elements:
Create a new document
Format document (background, positioning, etc.)
Edit an existing document
Apply preset filters (there are 11 for Photoshop Elements, as opposed to 9 in the other Photoshop versions)
